About NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS), launched in 1969 under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, is a transformative program with the motto “Not Me, But You.” It empowers students to develop their personalities through community service, fostering empathy, leadership, and social responsibility. NSS volunteers contribute meaningfully to society while cultivating a deep understanding of civic duties and values.

NSS at Milagres College – 2024–25

The NSS Unit at Milagres College, Mangaluru, is a dynamic platform for student engagement and nation-building. In 2024–25, 110 volunteers dedicated 120 hours to impactful activities, driving community outreach and personal growth.

Activities & Achievements (2024–25)

  • Inauguration: Kicked off on September 22, 2024, setting the stage for a vibrant year.
  • National & Social Days: Celebrated key days like Independence Day, Republic Day, Martyr’s Day, Sadbhavana Diwas, Human Rights Day, World No Tobacco Day, National Voter’s Day, and Constitution Day with enthusiasm.
  • Cleanliness Drives:
    • Swachhata Abhiyan around campus on Independence Day.
    • Cleanliness drive at District Wenlock Hospital for public health.
    • Beach Cleaning Drive on May 8, 2025, with 40 volunteers.
  • Co-Curricular Activities: Engaged in awareness talks, quizzes, elocution, pick-and-speak, and educational competitions during CC/EC hours.
  • External Events: Represented the college at National Youth Festival, Intercollegiate NSS Fests, and Kannada and Tulu Sahitya Sammelana.
  • Guest Lectures: Hosted sessions on Tobacco and Cancer, and Waste Segregation.
  • Annual Special Camp: A 7-day camp at Parochial Aided High School, Bajpe (January 12–18, 2025), with 51 volunteers driving community impact.
